I can imagine Licht's guitar mayhem in both of those songs going over hugely in the live setting. Thanks for the comment Mrowster, I've dug Pig State Recon for a while now....Josephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10975538343230380127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4332302473861284390.post-1488276876772891792010-09-13T22:30:10.707-07:002010-09-13T22:30:10.707-07:00Big fan of this CD over here. In 1991, Love Child played a WMFU benefit at The Ritz in NYC with John Zorn's Painkiller, Richard Hell's Dim Stars, Gumball, and Sonic Youth among others. Great gig, I nearly got my ass kicked for making fun of some dude for wearing a Nick Cave t-shirt, and Love Child's version of "Slow Me Down" nearly brought the (okay, my) house down.Mrowsterhttp://mrowster.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4332302473861284390.post-65390183390490141782010-06-30T21:36:23.500-07:002010-06-30T21:36:23.500-07:00That EP was a great thing, I agree. And that tape ...That EP was a great thing, I agree. And that tape might've got a review in Forced Exposure by Chris Stigliano, though it could've been a shortened version of the demo. I'm not going upstairs to check, I might end up digging through 'zines for hours. I happily stumbled onto the EP in an Olsen's books 7" section a few months after buying and blasting OKAY? incessantly. Again, I've not heard the post-Baum LP, but if I had to choose between it and the tape, I'd choose the demo without hesitation. And I hear you regarding lost tapes. I was handed a copy of Bridget Cross-era Velocity Girl's demo backstage after they opened for Galaxie 500, which I listened to once and promptly left in a casual acquaintence's tape deck, never to be heard again (by me anyway). What a dork.Josephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10975538343230380127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4332302473861284390.post-58344760744727617342010-06-29T21:39:04.899-07:002010-06-29T21:39:04.899-07:00the sick thing about love child is that some of th...the sick thing about love child is that some of their best stuff was never released - the 20 song demo tape which was the source material for their 6 song trashflow EP(I know for a fact Byron Coley has one of the only copies of this tape, put it online - I fuckin had one and lost it, shit!). The amazing thing about that demo tape is that the six songs chosen for the e.p. were among the best on the tape, but the whole thing was incredible - I mean, nothing else rises to the energetic heights of know it's alright, but will baum's best stuff was left off the E.P., and alan and rebecca have a bunch of other great songs that have never been released. it was like the pixie's blue tapes, it could have served as the source material for at least one more full length record on top of the trashflow e.p. and it would have been one of the defining indie-rock records of the late 80's. The demo tape was recorded in one shot when group tensions were running extremely high, and the energy is and songwriting is off the charts good - the trashflow e.p. is just a taste.Hallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09654723077851615866noreply@blogger.com
